Carols at Camberwell 2009 |
| Posted by Mark Hood on 14th December, 2009 |

With Christmas approaching, hundreds of families returned to the Camberwell Girls Grammar School oval for another great year to sing songs of joy about the Saviour, Jesus Christ. We were well led by many choirs of angels from Camberwell Girls Grammar, Auburn and Surrey Hills Primary schools.
Kids laughed and ran around, adults dined and lounged, the orchestra played some marvellous tunes, and guest performer Roma Waterman got all singing along. A wonderful night.

Now in its 8th year, Carols at Camberwell, a partnership between Camberwell Girls Grammar School and St. Mark’s Camberwell, continues to draw great crowds of families from the local area, as parents and children alike gather on the CGGS Main Oval to relax, to chat, to cheer, wave candles and sing of the approaching Christmas, and the approaching Saviour.
St. Mark’s new Vicar, Greg Allinson was our compere for the evening, who led with some good humour and musical encouragement, and significanntly, he drew our eyes to the great joy of Christmas, Jesus Christ himself.
As in previous years, the talented choirs from Auburn and Surrey Hills Primary Schools, and Ormiston (CGGS Junior school) choir led the singing at various points with somt wonderful Christmas songs and wonderful Christmas voices. Well done!
Roma Waterman featured as our guest performer and did a wonderful job lifting our voices and our spirits with her stirring singing, particuarly when she sang Land of Dreams, composed following the horrendous Feb 7 Bushfires from earlier in the year.
Throughout the course of the evening, we were very well served by many volunteers, including the parents of Camberwell Girls, and crew of terrific St. Mark’s Volunteers, looking resplendent in white, as they sold candles and programs and offered a friendly face to visitors.
Thanks to all the volunteers who made the night a great success, and thanks also to the many who came, to a great night of singing and connecting with our local community, affirming once more the great goodness of God in sending us his son, Jesus, the joy of all the world!

Particular thanks must go to Camberwell Girls Grammar School Music Director, Jenny Meachem, who once again was the genius behind the event itself, and the conductor of the fabulous Camberwell Girls Orchestra. Well done Jenny!
And now, as we approach Christmas Day: a day of great joy for many, but also a day of very mixed emotions for some, it is our Christmas Prayer that the God of heaven who sent his Son, Jesus, might draw many to receive this Saviour and so to sing!
Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing!
