Christmas Outreach to Backpackers |
| Posted by Mark Hood on 14th December, 2009 |
Christmas can be a very lonely time for young people who are travelling. Often they receive few if any gifts and can become quite homesick. Moreover, research has indicated that the ‘backpacker demographic’ is a searching group – many, having recently entered adulthood, hope to explore the meaning of life during their travels.
Our outreach aims to point them in the direction of Christ by providing them with a little gift of love from Christ’s Church. We package up 2 mince pies and attach a card welcoming them to Melbourne, re-asserting Jesus as the reason for Christmas and suggesting that they might like to check out a church whilst here this Christmas.
To do this we ask parishioners to donate packet(s) of bought fruit mince pies. The Coffeebeans women package them up and deliver them to a city Backpackers hostel to give out on Christmas Eve. Please bring your mince pies to the service on Sunday, 13 December and place them in the baskets at the rear of the church
Thanks for supporting this valuable outreach again this year.
